One of the most significant French Romantic piano works, the sonata by Dukas is by turns epic in length (a whopping 45 minutes) and daunting in its fiendish demands, a clear case as the BBC Music Magazine put it of 'send for Hamelin'. And it's coupled with the complete suriving works of Abel Decaux (1869-1943): a set of four piano pieces entitled 'Clairs de lune' and anticipating by some years the tonal and harmonic divergences of Debussy and Schoenberg.
