Op 6 & 7 september 2019 gaf Metallica 2 achtereenvolgende avonden een concert ter ere van de opening van het Chase Center in San Francisco. Tijdens de ruim twee-en-een-half uur durende show, speelde de band 20 nummers. Daarnaast selecteerde Michael Tilson Thomas , de Musical Director van de San Francisco Symphony, 2 unieke klassieke nummers. Het concert werd opgenomen in beeld en geluid en ging in oktober 2019 in Amerika de bioscopen in. S&M 2 is recentelijk opnieuw bewerkt door de band, waarbij de audio geremixt en geremasterd werd. Deze set bevat de 2CD en de dvd met daarop het gehele concert en bonusmateriaal achter de schermen en is voorzien van een boekwerkje met foto's van Anton Corbijn
