This CD presents a richly textured exploration of the classical music genre through Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s writing for string ensemble, focusing on the expressive possibilities of the viola within a five-part texture. Recorded by the renowned Takács Quartet with violist Timothy Ridout, the album highlights the ensemble’s refined balance, clarity and warmth, bringing out both the grandeur and intimacy of Mozart’s chamber writing. The interplay between quartet and guest viola is captured with particular sensitivity, allowing the music’s harmonic depth and conversational character to emerge with vivid presence.Released in 2026, the recording offers a modern, high-fidelity perspective on Mozart’s string quintet writing while remaining rooted in stylistic elegance and classical-era restraint. The Takács Quartet’s long-established reputation in chamber music and Timothy Ridout’s distinguished viola artistry combine to create a performance that emphasizes structural transparency, lyrical phrasing and dynamic nuance. As a CD release, it is conceived as a cohesive listening experience, inviting attention to the evolving moods and colors across the program and showcasing Mozart as a composer of profound emotional range and architectural sophistication.
